One of my cherished projects at the La Crosse Area Chamber of Commerce was to celebrate, as its first female leader, its 150 year anniversary. The strong history of this community is intertwined with a healthy business community. From Nathan Myrick, who began La Crosse as a trading post to C.C. Washburn (founder of Gold Medal Flour) who funded our first library to lumber baron Gideon Hixon whose astounding wife Ellen helped save Grandad Bluff and Hixon Forest.
The health of our community and our businesses go hand-in-hand.
“Our backbone is really the businesses that have been there with us through it all, thick and thin. So I think the longevity of our Chamber is greatly due to their efforts and what they have done over time for the community as well,” said Executive Director, Vicki Markussen.” -NEWS 8000
As Mayor of La Crosse, I will always honor our city’s rich history, the businesses that have put their sweat and heart into this city and the citizens who have invested so much to continue to improve and make our community thrive. I look forward to continuing to roll up my sleeves and work on behalf of this city and its people.
